This 33,000 sf Primary Center for the LAUSD is on oasis in a dense residential area of Los Angeles, and the design scheme retains the park-like quality of the tree filled site while adding the necessary built area.
The scheme for this LAUSD primary school consists of two main built structures-the two story classroom/ administration building with parking below, and the one-storymultipurpose building.
Both structures cling to the long edges of the site in order to maintain the built character of the street edge and to frame the interior park-like space which is used as play yards and fields.
The two primary structures are connected along the northern edge by a canopy or porch-like structure. The ‘public porch’ canopy addresses both the school and the neighborhood.

The school has Structured Parking, a Multipurpose Library, Administration offices with Nurse Station, Dining and Full Food Service, and Landscaped Outdoor Areas, Including a Learning Garden.
